Patent Attorneys are official representatives, certified by the state for the right to provide legal assistance in the sphere of intellectual (industrial) property protection and enforcement.

The right to become a Patent Attorney belongs to a person with a profile (legal and/or technical) education, work experience in the specialty, related to intellectual property protection, of at least 5 years, who has successfully taken a certification exam at the National Intellectual Property Centre of the Republic of Belarus.

A Patent Attorney of the Republic of Belarus has the authority to represent the interests of his/her clients before the National Intellectual Property Centre, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Eurasian Patent Office, the Rospatent, the customs bodies and antimonopoly authorities, law enforcement agencies, at the Board of Appeal of the Patent Office, at the Judicial Collegium on Intellectual Property Cases of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus, in courts of general jurisdiction, and before other bodies and organizations on all possible matters, relating to the creation, defence, use and protection of the rights on intellectual (industrial) property items, including trademarks, inventions, utility models, industrial designs, geographical indications and other objects.
